The coloration provides excellent camouflage in its natural habitat, and it is highly variable as seen in pics. Its presence in both natural and artificial water bodies highlights its ecological versatility and importance. 3.) Carnivorous, feeding on a variety of invertebrates such as insects, spiders, and worms. Larger individuals may also consume small fish and other amphibians. 4.) Plays a crucial role in its ecosystem as both a predator and prey. It helps control insect populations and serves as food for a variety of birds, reptiles, and mammals. 5.) Primarily nocturnal but can also be active during the day, especially in cooler or shaded areas. 6.) Breeds in spring and summer. Males call to attract females, and mating typically occurs in water. Females lay large clusters of eggs that hatch into tadpoles.
