A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Anhinga anhinga
Dark brown bird, female has light brown neck feathers. Webbed feet and a long pointed beak. These birds are fishermen, they swim under water and spear the fish, then they have to work the fish off the beak to swallow it face first. They have a very low oil content which allows them to swim underwater but forces them to have to dry their wings before flying. So they can often be seen sitting wings outstretched in the sun
