This butterfly is commonly found here, and this one was actually laying eggs previously on hackberry. The American snout has elongated mouth parts, which, in concert with the antennae, give the appearance of the petiole (stem) of a dead leaf. The caterpillars are green, which make them very tricky to spot, as they blend in very well in the hackberry leaves.

The inside of this butterfly consists of various colors (white,brown,orange).
