I have added a photo of the larvae to show how effective/ destructive they can be.
Unfortunately, the family were cleaning up my wife's vegetable garden. I cannot remember whether it was the cucumber or pumpkin vines.

Good spotting ! Pity they are so destructive. Not a native but neither are potatoes :)
Wow thanks Kevin. I've always thought our ladybirds were carnivores and you've taught me a) this is not one of ours and b) it's a voracious solanaceae eater.

In the 'Habitat' field can you put a few words to describe the place you found it please.. maybe the plant it was exploring.. thanks. You've had so much rain up there it should be a good wildlife season for the next few months.
