Northern California Flora and Fauna

Northern California Flora and Fauna

Any wildlife or plant life- land, air, or sea-welcome in this mission. Habitat loss and degradation are important issues in all of California. California generates half of all the agricultural products used by U.S. consumers, and is also heavily threatened by the expansion of urban areas, pollution, and road construction. So let's make sure to document everything- native or nonnative. Maybe we'll begin to see patterns over time. Sign in to join mission

California is a truly special place, considered to be a biodiversity hotspot (one of 34 in the world). Hotspots hold high numbers of endemic species, but their combined area is only 2.3% of terrestrial areas on Earth. We have lost at least 70% of our original natural vegetation. Because this state still holds so much biodiversity, let's look at how beautiful northern California really is. Happy spotting!
