The Svalbard archipelago has a surprising diversity of life given its extreme latitude. This is thanks to warm water currents that travel past the group of islands, giving it a much more forgiving climate than other areas that are just as far north as Svalbard. Much of the land is protected as it is an important area for migrating birds, while also offering good hunting grounds to vulnerable species like polar bears. This mission serves to document the wildlife found in these remote and beautiful islands.
