Agelaius phoeniceus
Male Red-winged Blackbirds are predominantly black with red and yellow coverts that appear like epaulets on their wings. The females are duller, less conspicuous with a white stripe over their eyes.
Many cattails surrounding the retention pond attracted several male Red-winged Blackbirds. This was the first day this year I spotted females, and they were selecting a mate.
