African Fish-eagle

Haliaetus vocifer

Description:

A large and majestic bird. The adult is unmistakable and easily recognized even from far away (as it is often observed perched on a tallest tree in his/her territory), with its black to dark brown coat, chestnut belly and underwings, and bright white chest, neck and head. Massif and yellow raptor's bill with black tip.

Habitat:

The wooded shores of Awassa lake, mainly forested with patches of marshes. I observed these eagles every time I went to this lake, my visits being years apart... The lake is very popular for birds and bird-watching; some other animals can also be observed there. Absolutely stunning bird-watching experience at dawn.
