Peacock Butterfly

Description:

The four large eye-spots on the wings make this butterfly look unmistakeable. The Peacock butterfly takes to flight in June - September and also after hibernating at spring time. These butterflies adore Buddleia. At its caterpillar stage it grows to approximately 45mm and is black with tiny white spots on and has branched spines. It will feed on stinging nettles.

Another photograph captured whilst out on a walk. Another lovely, bright day which drew out many different species of butterfly.

Hi Chris! Please can you add the scientific name to your spottings so that we can take them off of the "unknown" list & add a link (wikipedia etc) to the references. Because we have a global user base & sometimes many different common names for the same species, the system will continue to show a spotting as unidentified until the scientific name has been completed. Thanks!
