Double-Crested Cormorant

Phalacrocorax auritus

Description:

An all-black bird with a bare patch of orange-yellow facial skin. The "double-crested" portion of its name refers to the small double crest of black and white feathers it gains during breeding season. It mainly eats fish by swimming and diving. Commonly known to roost in large numbers in trees near water.

Notes:

These Double-Crested Cormorants are sharing their nesting tree with Great Blue Herons.
