Haliaeetus leucocephalus
The adult Bald Eagle is mainly brown with a white head and tail. The sexes are identical in plumage, but females are larger than males. The beak is large and hooked. The plumage of the immature is brown. Bald Eagles are not actually bald, the name derives from the older meaning of the word, "white headed". In the late 20th century the Bald Eagle was on the brink of extirpation in the continental United States, while flourishing in much of Alaska and Canada.
Wilderness interior of Vancouver Island, BC
Our wildlife spotting trip to Vancouver Island was scuppered by the weather - heavy snow/sleet all afternoon. We were lucky enough to spot this lone eagle hanging out on the top of a utility pole in the middle of nowhere - looking very wet & miserable! Unfortunately the photos aren't the best because of the sleet & mist.

Thanks Carol & Jacob!
Beautiful...
Wonderful series! Congrats on getting a Bald Eagle.
Thank you Satyen & Akshay!
Leuba, I agree they are such magnificent creatures - even when a little bedraggled like this guy!
Amazing one . Superb raptor
I think these are the most handsome of eagles -perhaps its the white head with the ragged bottom edge that does it. The sleet and mist add make it natural and atmospheric - lovely photos karen !
You were able to catch some nice pics.
