Siam Tulip

Curcuma sp

Description:

no leaves, short stalk, not sure of the exact species, I think it was flowering a little out of season as there were no other blooms around.

Habitat:

tropical grasslands surrounded by forest

Notes:

I spotted this in Nam Nao National Park. It was my first time to see a Siam Tulip and I was very excited. I spotted it under some fallen pine needles along a trail in the park. I cleaned up the area around it for a clear shot. I had seen photos of entire fields covered in Siam Tulips at parks in the area but it was the not the right time of year when I was there.

How nice to see this in the wild! I'm not sure of the species but we have a Curcuma similar to this cultivated in FL.
