Skunk Cabbage

Symplocarpus foetidus

Description:

What a wonderful early harbinger of spring here in the Appalachian Mountains. Skunk Cabbage blossoms, pictured here, generate heat enough to poke up through and melt a bit of ice and snow.

Habitat:

Shady, wet areas

Notes:

I've tried transplanting some with no luck. Anyone have hints for me?
