Mullein

Verbascum thapsus

Description:

The leaves are soft and near the ground. Mulleins live for 2 years and then the so it is biennial. There are yellow flowers on the stalk. The stalk can grow to be 10 feet tall. The leaves are pale green.

Habitat:

I doesn't like to grow in the shade. It likes to grow in places where the land has been burned.

Notes:

I spotted this plant while my class was on a field trip to Little Chebeague Island in Maine. It was early spring so the plant was very small. When we go back again I am expecting that it will be much bigger, but the stalk may not come up until later.
