Description:

Su distribución en Suramérica comprende los Andes desde Venezuela hasta Argentina. En Colombia, se encuentra en zonas altas semiabiertas de las tres cordilleras andinas y en la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Es una de las especies que más se ha adaptado a los ambientes urbanos, donde vive en parques y jardines. Parece presentar migraciones altitudinales locales, pues se le observa en la zona cafetera cuando ocurre la floración masiva de los Pízamos. Recibe el nombre de Chillón Común porque los machos chillan incansablemente desde una percha alta en el centro de su territorio. Despliega las plumas azules que cubren sus oídos como señal de advertencia.
