Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel

Callospermophilus lateralis

Description:

Small grayish mammal with dark orange ("golden") head and shoulders, ~ 7 in long exclusive of tail, with black and white longitudinal stripes along its sides.

Habitat:

Northwest montane conifer forest.

Notes:

Spotted at Pumice Point turnout off of North Rim Drive in Crater Lake National Park.
