Description:

An invasive perennial often referred to as bamboo, this tough, opportunistic plant spreads rapidly and pushed out native plants. The dead stalks (pictured above) persist through the winter until new shoots push through in the late spring.

Habitat:

Along a woodland trail just outside a suburban neighborhood.
