White-faced Whistling Duck

Description:

Medium sized dark-brown duck with a diagnostic white face. It sports dark-chestnut brown chest and finely barred flanks. Most often, it stands erect, and reaches approx 45 cm in height

Habitat:

This is a common duck in sub-Saharan Africa, and found in swampy grounds, lagoons and lakes and adjacent grasslands. Here, observed on swampy grounds (pic N°5) in mixed flocks of egrets and herons on their nesting ground and during nesting season. Nesting ground is a marsh (pic 6) in urban environment of one of the bigger towns (Port Harcourt) in Nigeria.
