Danaus chrysippus
This is a common butterfly and can be seen on the wing at most times of the year. It is also known as the lesser wanderer or the African monarch. The upperside has the same pattern with the underside but darker in color. The caterpillar is banded with white ,black and chrome yellow and has three pairs of black filament with red base located near the end of the body and the two pairs near the head. It feeds on milkweed, crown flower and related plants.
Lowlands, secondary forests, cultivated land and urban communities.
This specimen has just emerged from its chrysalis.
