Merlin

Falco columbarius

Description:

We observed this small bird of prey at first having a dispute with a local crow. The tail has thick bands of brown that alternate with thin white-ish bands. The beak is rather small and we noted a light "eyebrow" color.

Notes:

I suspect it's a female Merlin.

Definitely a Merlin, and a female I think, based on the line under the eye.

I think you are right, I agree with Merlin. I don't know about sex though, it looks like the male pics on my guide, don't know if female are very different.
