Description:

The male of this sparrow-sized bird has varying levels of red on his neck, head and breast, especially during the breeding season. Females are a duller brown color, usually with heavily streaked sides and breast. Adults have a long tail, square-tipped tail.

Habitat:

These birds have been expanding their range over much of the US and southern North America. In the west, they prefer semi-open country; in the east they tend to live in urban and suburban areas.
