Blue-breasted Bee-eater

Merops variegatus

Description:

Small bee-eater, slightly larger than a little bee-eater, reaching some 18cm in length. It has green back, nape and crown, rufous wing coverts and buff belly; and it further sports yellow throat, bordered by a dark blue collar band (this dark blue, depending on subspecies, can even be black) and bright blue large supercilium.

Habitat:

Common bird locally, in pairs or small groups, with patchy distribution across sub-Saharan Africa. Here, observed in urban setting of Harar, Ethiopia's city-region, at outskirts of the town center.
