Merops variegatus
Small bee-eater, slightly larger than a little bee-eater, reaching some 18cm in length. It has green back, nape and crown, rufous wing coverts and buff belly; and it further sports yellow throat, bordered by a dark blue collar band (this dark blue, depending on subspecies, can even be black) and bright blue large supercilium.
Common bird locally, in pairs or small groups, with patchy distribution across sub-Saharan Africa. Here, observed in urban setting of Harar, Ethiopia's city-region, at outskirts of the town center.
