Pluvialis squatarola

Description:

Non-breeding visitor from high Arctic nesting grounds, usually present October-April. In winter plumage, looks mainly grey with upperparts spangled black and white and underparts whitish; juvenile is similar but usually shows buffish wash.

Habitat:

Favours coastal mudflats.

Notes:

Looks like an adult in first winter plumage.
