Wild Pansy

Viola tricolor

Description:

This small and delicate creeping plant is also known by many synonyms, such as Johnny-jump-up, heart's ease, heartsease etc... It is some 15 to 20 cm tall, with small white and yellow flowers - flowers can also be blue or purple, or take any of the combinations of colors mentioned.

Habitat:

Alpine pastures, on treeline, growing in relative shade.

Notes:

Interesting thing is that "[the wild pansy] is the progenitor of the cultivated pansy, and is therefore sometimes called wild pansy; before the cultivated pansies were developed, "pansy" was an alternative name for the wild form."
