Purple Trillium

Trillium erectum

Description:

Sometimes this flower is called a Stinking Benjamin because it smells like rotten meat. It is pollinated by flies, so that explains the smell! I have also heard it called a Red Trillium. I looked it up in the Newcomb Wildflower Guide and it is also known as the Wake-robin and Birthroot Trillium.

Habitat:

Woodland wildflower.

Notes:

Baltimore Woods is blooming with all kinds of wildflowers right now, I can't keep up!
