New Zealand Sea Lion

Phocarctos hookeri

Description:

A rounded nosed, short whiskered sea lion walking out of the surf.

Notes:

Note that the fur seal has a pointed nose and therefore can be distinguished from the sea lion with ease. This sea lion rolled its way with the surf onto the beach. Eventually it decided that it was time to walk and stood up and choose a path right next to where I was crouched down. The sea lions walk required many rest breaks. The last image is false colour to highlight the markings it leaves on the sand. -Do not approach
