Urosaurus ornatus
Small redish green desert lizard. The one in my hand had a blue belly!
High deserts near Moab Utah
This is the greatest lizard picture I have ever seen. I could like this a thousand times.
Emily, it's possible that the little guy in your hand could also be a Sagebrush Lizard (now that I see some photos). Apparently, they are very similar in appearance to the Ornate Tree Lizards with only small differences in size and "number of scales". Having never seen either lizard in person, I don't have a good frame of reference. You might have a better take on it since you saw and handled the lizard.
You could also see if you have any knowledgeable local reptile folk who might know the most common lizards in your area. Good luck!
Thanks Forestdragon! I will check out your recommendations! I thought they were all the same specie. I did some research of my own and found a sagebrush lizard to be very similar. Any thoughts on that?
The one in your hand looks like an Ornate Tree Lizard (Urosaurus ornatus)
The other two are different. I think they are Common Side-blotched Lizards(Uta stansburiana).
Great spot! Cool lizards. :)
