Description:

Protecting the calf on the ground from hyenas. ali managed to get this shot a couple of years ago on a trip to Botswana.

Habitat:

Giraffes usually inhabit savannas, grasslands and open woodlands.

Notes:

The giraffe is the tallest living terrestrial animal.

I am really happy to see this ending. I had seen an exactly same situation written by national geographic in which the ending is not so great.
It was touching to see how gracefully the mother accepts it though.

Ali tells us there was a happy ending, the lucky group sat and watched for a while - after half an hour or so the hyenas realised the mum was always going to win. An great unexpected bonus! Safaris in quiter reserves can throw these things up!

Fantastic series - such a great mom! Did you stay around long enough to see the conclusion of this story? Hopefully the hyenas gave up & went to look for an easier meal but they are very persistent.
