Hipparchia statilinus
This appeared to be much larger than any of the other species seen this day.
Mature pine woods in mountains about 7-800 metres.
Malcolm, I downloaded and magnified the third image and I can see a black spot. The wings are more closed and the upper part of the forewing is not showing as clearly anymore. While I would not wish to identify it on the basis of this shot only, I believe it is still compatible with being a tree grayling.

Just one thing, I now think Pic 3 may not be the same species, it looks different somehow and no obvious black spot.
There are quite a few grayling species in the south of Europe but this one is a tree grayling, Hipparchia statilinus. I can be distinguished on the underside forewing by two large black eyespots ringed in yellow, and two white spots in between, well visible on your shots. There is also small black spot on the underside hindwing. Some pictures here:
