Acherontia lachesis
This caterpillar is feeding on a Pea Aubergine (Solanum torvum) plant in the garden. Spotted the droppings first, which always remind me of hand grenages, then the caterpillar, who blends in beautifully with the plant.

Thank you for the ident bayucca . I have looked at both of your suggestions. I'm happy to go with your ident as I don't have enough knowledge to try and differentiate between the two.
I forgot to mention that from both, Lachesis and Styx (like "my" Atropos) there are 3 different color forms. Green, yellow and brown.
I am not 100% if it is really Acherontia lachesis. There is another one: Acherontia styx. Not easy to separate. I would tend to Acherontia lachesis, but you have to check!
