Great spotting Christine. You might bookmark this reference - it has incredible pictures of most if not all the Cladonia sp. and many others.
Thanks for the confirmation. I know nothing about lichens. I thought these resemble british soldiers (except not red), so now I'm thinking definitely Cladonia, and maybe Cladonia sobolescens.
I agree with Cladonia. So hard to find good field guides for lichens, so I'm not really sure on the species!
