Corvus cornix
Common eurasian grey-and-black corvid. Except for the color, looks exactly like its first cousin, the all-black Carrion crow. About 50 cm in length.
This is a common resident in many urban and rural settings in Mediterranean, and has no prefered habitat, it can be seen everywhere. Here, playing in the wind above Šibenik.
As explained, common eurasian species, very close genetically to Corvus corone (Carrion crow) - it was longtemps considered as eastern subspecies of Carrion crow. The two species share Eurasia - C. corone (Carrion crow) in the west of Europe; and the extreme east of that landmass. Hooded crow occupies much larger territory, from Italy-Germany to China.
