Fasciated Tiger Heron

Tigrisoma fasciatum

Description:

length approximately 2 feet; long yellow- stripped bill (or yellow-chinned); black/grey and white slate pattern on back; long neck; The neck and back are slate black to black brown with narrow, widely spaced pale buff barring, with the buff of the lower neck more distinct than the back. The upper bill is black with horn tip. The lower bill is horn at the tip, dark near end and yellow green toward the face. The skin at the lower gape is yellow to yellow green. The irises are yellow. The Fore neck and breast are white streaked with brown. The legs are brown.

Habitat:

sub-tropical forest, pacific lowlands; slow moving river; several watersheds; dense canopy;

Notes:

spotted large hen-like bird perched on a branch that was 12 feet above the slow moving river with a 12 foot drop waterfall and a 50 foot wide watershed (see image)
