Malus fusca
Native fruit tree growing no more than 25' high, flowering with white petals nearly shorter than their stamens. The yellow-green fruit are about an inch long at most and mostly stone, more like a plum than an apple, and do not particularly taste good, but the tree is hardy (until the snow fell heavy on it) and would suit to shore up streambeds in pastures as it likes the wet soil.
Temperate rain forest. They don't grow in monoculture, but can be found sprinkled throughout the spruce/hemlock/alder woods where there's sun and well-watered/swampy soil.
