Mallard

Anas platyrhynchos

Description:

This is the only surviving mallard chick out of 10 ducklings. It is still taken care of its parents. Very dedicated set of parents. I had read a link which stated that only 1/20 survive. This chick is 12 days old and i am keeping my fingers crossed. The major change i see in this duckling is in the beak

I have uploaded the latest picture on the lone survivor out of ten ducklings.
i was told that the bass or the hawk could have eaten the rest.
In picture number 1 the duckling is about 6 weeks old and has developed the plumage of a female Mallard. We have a little baby girl here!
Pic 2 shows the duck at age 4 weeks and pic 1 shows the ducks at about 1 week old.
i was relieved to see that the only survivor is doing well!!

Thanks Rebecca. I am quite eager and anxious to see it reach adulthood.
