Caligo sp.
The "owl butterflies," so called because of the large eyespots on the ventral surface of the hindwing, which when presented upside down with the wings spread suggest the head of an owl. Also the eyespots, play a role as anti predator mechanisms.
They are found in the rainforests and secondary forests of Mexico, Central, and South America.
Found them in a feeder at the Cali zoo.
