Eastern Gray Squirrel

Sciurus carolinensis

Description:

This squirrel and I have developed a fun relationship through our bird feeders. Over time, the squirrel is so acclimated to me, he (though I'm not sure of the sex) now comes up on my windowsill, waiting patiently for me to place peanuts, fruit or seeds out. When I open the window to slip him some treats, he'll jump down and wait until I close the window. He'll even take snacks directly from my hand - but I found out his nails are quite sharp, even if he's just grabbing for treats. Squirrels are extremely adaptable and they're great problem solvers.

If squirrels become too attached ,they can dig under ground tunnels and get into your home.
