Charadrius tricollaris
Also knwon as Three-banded Sandplover, this small wading bird from plover & lapwing family (Charadriidae) is 17 to 18 cm in length. Contrary to its name, it carries only two black breast bandes (though separated by white band...). It has a broad white forehead, grey cheeks and obvious red eye-rings surrounding pale eyes. The mantle is brown, and legs orange. It also has an orange bill with a blackish tip.
Resident wader, it was seen on shores of soda lake in central Kenya. Observed during four to five days of my stay on shores, in loosely congregated groups of various waders, gulls and cormorants.
During five days of my stay in Elementaita, I observed this flock regularly, and other waders I noticed were Common, Green, Wood and Marsh Sandpipers, Greenshanks, Ruffs, Stilts and Stints, as well as some Common and Kittlitz's plovers (with Little Stint in pic no 6).
