Porcupine

Erethizon dorsatum

Description:

Dark brown body covered in spines that easily detach. They have a chunky body with a short face and thick tail. This guy was munching on some branches while watching me, then climbed down and walked off into the grass, not headed in a direction that had any trees in site. Not sure what he was doing!

Habitat:

Found in a tree at the corner of two streets. The next closest trees were at least half a mile away, and he walked the opposite way of those trees. Mixed grass prairie.
