Eriospermum rautanenii
A very small yellow monocotyledonous plant growing from an underground corm. The single leaf is about 30mm long, sheathing the developing inflorescence which elongates to about 30 - 80mm. The inflorescence is few to many flowered with brown sepals protecting the buds which open into a pyramid of bright yellow star-shaped flowers. Pale green fruits develop which dehisce to expose seeds which are covered in long white hairs
open sandy areas, often on shallow soils associated exposed rocky areas and temporary rain traps. Relatively hot, arid areas with periodic inundation from summer rain storms; winters dry.
