House Sparrow

Passer domesticus

Description:

This female house sparrow seems to be "panting". I've never seen a bird pant before, but it has been very hot and dry here, and yesterday, I observed numerous house sparrows that appeared to be panting - bill hanging open and not making any noise, but with their throats looking like they were twitching a little bit. Females are a plain brown color with gray-brown underparts. Their backs are striped with black and brown.

Habitat:

I spotted this sparrow in a semi-rural area.
