Boldly marked on back, wings and face. The U shaped dark outline on face and dark crown. Thick bill. White throat with few streaks over a white chest and flanks.

Habitat:

Found in dry grassy area of an old landfill

It's okay. I was having trouble spotting them over the Song Sparrows, Horned Lark and American Pipits that were all over. There were 5 Laplands in this area. In the photo you can barely see the second one to the left in the 3rd photo.

I did not mean that your ID was wrong! Sorry if it sounded that way.
I was remarking more on how there is a possibility that an amateur could mix it up with a Lark Sparrow.
