Lycoperdon perlatum
A.k.a Common or gem-studded puffball, this fungus has a spherical whitish or cream-colored fruitbody (becoming brownish later on... photos 3 and 4 are of one freshly dislodged fruitbody), of some 3 - 4 cm in diameter, covered with short cone-like spines. It also has a stump-like stem, usually well covered by dead leaves and organic matter.
Forest floor.
Edible when young, but not particularly prized.
