Nice spotting, James. Awesome beaks. I've never seen anything like them. I've learned something about plumage as well :-)

James, what Malcolm means is male shovelers in eclipse plumage. In ducks, eclipse plumage replaces the breeding plumage after the breeding season and appears at a time when the main flight feathers are moulting. Eclipse plumage is usually much duller than normal plumage

Thank you Malcolm, but the beaks look wrong for eclipse. Look like shoveler.
