Northern Mockingbird

Mimus polyglottos

Description:

Medium sized songbird, mostly gray with white wingbars. Long thin bill with a hint of downward curve.

Habitat:

Just about anywhere in Florida -towns, suburbs, backyards, parks, forest edges, and open land at low elevations.

Notes:

The mockingbird is the bird that got me interested in birding. I love how they change songs and mimic other birds. While watching one nearby, this one flew in out of nowhere carrying a mole cricket. I thought it was going to head to a nest, but next thing I knew it gulped it down in seconds flat.
