The Hebrew Moth

Polygrammate hebraeicum

Description:

Black and white moth, when viewed from above there is almost a "smiley face" on its basal area. Checkered terminal line.

Habitat:

Spotted basking in sunlight in a scrubby wooded area between two old fields near my yard.

Notes:

Host plant is Black Gum, which I have a large specimen of on the edge of my yard.
