Picumnus temminckii
Measures approximately 9 cm. Some authors consider this bird as a subspecies of the barred dwarf woodpecker (Picumnus cirratus) which actually is very similar, but the Brazilian Committee of Ornithological Records (CBRO), in a resolution published in 2001, came to regard them as distinct species. The ochre-collared Piculet differs from barred dwarf woodpecker by presenting a ocher staining region on the face and neck and for a more general brown color, especially on the upper parts. The male has red stains on the forehead while in the female they are white. The immature male, already close to maturity, shows the edges of lower parts almost defined and forehead without white markings. His singing is a very typical trill, resembling that of some crickets.
South and southwest of Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Uruguay. It can be found in any area where there are not too dense woods.
