Reddish Egret (white morph)

Egretta rufescens

Description:

Size similar to Snowy Egret, no yellow on face or bill. Legs and feet black.

Habitat:

Photographed on sandy beach at river mouth.

Notes:

I almost didn't bother to go closer and have a look at this bird. I assumed it was a Snowy Egret, which are plentiful in this area. But it is not a Snowy Egret or a Great Egret. Could it be the white form of the Reddish Egret?

Most definitely a Reddish Egret with those scraggly neck feathers, especially evident in photo 4. One of my favorite birds!

I forgot to mention juvenile Little Blue Heron - I had ruled that out also because, as you say, they have lighter color bills and legs. Thanks for your opinion!

Think your conclusion of white morph Reddish Egret is correct...If was snowy would have yellow feet and juvenile Little Blue Herons are white but their legs and bills are grayish not solid black.
