Sulphur Tuft; Seta Fasciculada

Hypholoma fasciculare

Description:

Toxic fungus that grows on dead wood. It is yellow colored at the edges of the cap and becomes orange-brown at the center. The gills are yellow and darken with maturity. I have heard a few times the popular believe in Spain that fungi that grow on wood is always eatable. People should never believe this simplified (and false) rules about mushrooms toxicity. It is very dangerous and this is a very common exception to that false rule. Hypholoma fasciculare has been used successfully as an experimental treatment to competitively displace a common fungal disease of conifers, Armillaria solidipes, from managed coniferous forests

Habitat:

Spotted at a pine tree forest at mountain terrain. Reserva de la Biosfera del Real Sitio de San Ildefonso-El Espinar.

Notes:

Camera Model: NIKON D500. Exposure Time: 1/320 sec.; f/11; ISO Speed Rating: 3200. Focal Length: 90.0 mm. No flash fired. DSC_1104, 1108, 1109
