Baobab forest

Adansonia

Description:

Of the 9 species of Baobab, 6 are endemic to Madagascar. Baobabs are distinguished by there shiny bark (reddish brown), large trunk, small leaves and fruit (apparently quite sour). They grow very slowly (about 1cm per year) and hold water which is used for cattle. There are trees which mimic Baobabs however these are greyer in colour, grow 10x as quickly and have larger leaves. All the photos are of Baobabs (at ages ranging from 300 to 1,200 years) in a private Baobab reserve. The tree in the first picture is 1,200 years old. I am in the picture and am 5' (153cm) to give the tree scale.
